John Elick Westren, 83, passed away August 26, 2021. Born in Corry, PA, he lived most of his life in Tallmadge.
John was the Superintendent of the Tallmadge Street Department for 42 years before retiring in 1998. He helped his community as a volunteer firefighter and an auxiliary police office for the city of Tallmadge. He attended Tallmadge United Methodist Church and Victory Chapel and was a member of the Dr. Roach Outdoor League. John enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing; especially in Canada, boating, hunting, mowing the grass, and being with his family. The City of Tallmadge Road Department named the service building after him the John E. Westren Municipal Service Center.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 60 years, Nancy (Shilts), parents, Elick and Marthe Westren, and great grandchild, Adrian Santos.
John is survived by his daughters, Eileen (Ray) James of Randolph, Cindy Westren of Tallmadge; sons, John (Donna) Westren of Tallmadge, Mark Westren of Akron; grandchildren, Tiffany (Greg) Eichler, Tonya Charles, Diana Westren, Shawn (Stephanie) James, Billy James, Johnathan (Lauren) Westren, Laura (Robbie) Patterson, Kara Westren; great grandchildren, Adam, Kelsey, Kendall, Garrett Eichler, Cheyenne, Cameron, Colbie Charles, Ellie, Jase, Zoey, Clay James, Sayla, Charlotte Patterson, Finn, Mae, and Jax Westren.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle.) with funeral service immediately following with Pastor Robert Webb officiating.
Interment will be at Tallmadge Cemetery.
