Lawrence Joseph Cook, of Akron, Stow, Ravenna, and Tallmadge, Ohio, and Dover and Magnolia, Delaware, died July 18, 2023, aged 72.
He was an Eagle Scout at age 13, was part of the first graduating class of Walsh Jesuit High School in 1969, and was a graduate of the University of Akron and Cleveland State University John Marshall College of Law. He began his legal career as a public defender, and over the course of his more than 40 years as a practicing attorney in Akron, he appeared in nearly every municipal court in the state of Ohio, and was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Larry was both an affable and tenacious advocate, a talented musician and actor, and an avid sailor, pilot, and athlete. He was devoted to his family and he delighted in his friends. He brought out the best in, and will be missed by, everyone who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Caroline Wilson Cook and Lawrence Francis Cook.
Larry is survived by his wife, Lori Cook, of Tallmadge; children, William Henry Wooley IV; Colin and Stephanie Cook, Fiona and Maisie; Caitlin and Steve Bradley, Noah and Finn; Elizabeth Cook, Jack and Daisy, all of Akron; mother of children, Julianne Parks Cook of Akron; brothers and sisters, John and Vicki Cook of Raleigh, North Carolina, Ann Cook of Kent, Barb and Joe DeLeone of Brimfield, Rita and Rick Baker of Rootstown, Kathy and Joe Karpinski of Kent, Rich and Chris Cook of Rootstown, and Kevin and Emi Cook of Stow; extended family members Jim and Becky Parks of Webster, New York, Tom and Mary Jane Parks of Wadsworth, Carole and Larry Maurer of Norfolk, Virginia; and a many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Lock 15 Brewing Co., 21 West North Street, Akron, OH 44304, on Monday, August 14, 2023 from 4-8pm.
