On Saturday, March 20, 2021, Marjorie ‘Marge’ Carlson, loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister passed away at the age of 83. Marge was born in 1937 to Ferne and Elton Ripley, in Akron, Ohio and lived in Brimfield Township for most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Philip Carlson; sisters, Gertrude, Genevieve, and Marilyn; and brothers Richard, Wilbur, and Robert Ripley.
Marge is survived by her sons, Rodney (Anna) Carlson, George (Denise) Carlson, Donald (Barbara) Carlson; daughter Frances (Philip) Taylor; grandchildren Steve, Ron (Bernadette), David (Sarah), Kristen (John), Danielle, Owen, Teddy, Alexis, and Jacob; great grandchildren, Ty, Ian, Jack, Landon, Harrison, and Maggie; brothers, Lucius Ripley and Lowell Ripley; and many nieces and nephews.
Marge leaves behind a legacy of commitment, hard work and strong devotion to helping others. Her passion was to provide an opportunity for all children to engage in activities to grow their skills and better their character through teamwork and competition. She served as the treasurer of both the Field High School Athletic Booster Club and Brimfield Athletic Association, and previously served on the Field School Board for many years. She also ran the concession stands for Field Falcon Athletics for over 30 years and previously managed little league baseball teams while pitching batting practice with the best of them. She was a true sports lover, whether watching on TV, listening on radio, or in person - especially if her grandchildren or great grandchildren were playing. She also loved to watch her grandchildren play and compete in band, choir, and theatrical productions. Never a woman to sit still, she could always be found working in the woods and on the ball fields, and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends. She was adored by all who knew her, dearly loved by her family and will be profoundly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Marge’s name to Kent City Schools Special Olympics (c/o Theodore Roosevelt High School, 1400 N. Mantua St., Kent, OH 44240) or Field Athletic Boosters (c/o Field High School, 2900 St. Rt. 43, Mogadore, OH 44260).
