Michele “Mike” Rinaldi, 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 1, 2022.
Born and raised in Bonefro, Italy, Mike began his apprenticeship as a mason at the age of thirteen. He practiced this craft for the rest of his life. At the age of seventeen, he bravely adventured to Switzerland to work and send money home to support his family. After serving in the Italian army, at age twenty-seven he traveled to America, again to work to help support his family in Italy. In 1969, he married his wife of fifty-three years, Carolina, who also grew up in Bonefro. They moved together to America where they started and raised their family. He lived most of his life in the Akron and Silver Lake areas. A self-employed mason, he was an incredibly hard-working man, and the owner of Rinaldi Construction. Mike enjoyed playing cards with his paesani as a member of the Unione Abruzzese Italian Center. But most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his seven grandchildren.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe and Rosaria Rinaldi; brothers, Costanzo and Nicola; and brother-in-laws, Arturo Cavazzini, Nicola Colabella, and Michelantonio Colabella.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolina “Lina”; son, Joseph (Mary) Rinaldi; daughter, Rosaria (Richard) McCarthy; brother, Domenico (Edilia) Rinaldi; sister, Antonietta Cavazzini; sister-in-laws, Angelina Rinaldi, Maria Rosa Rinaldi, Maria Nicola Colabella, and Rita Colabella; and grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Francis, Margaret, Carolyn, James, and Carolina.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 5, 2022, from 2 until 4 p.m. at Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 6, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, 3179 Kent Rd. Stow, OH with Rev. Damian Ference officiating.
Interment will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
