Norm was born August 24, 1926 and passed way September 10, 2021 at the age of 95.
Norm grew up in a family of ten on Pig Tail Alley in Randolph. He is the last member of the Lucile and William Gillis Family.
Norm was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Jackie. They met upon his return from serving his country as part of the Army in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. Together they traveled to all 48 of the lower states and tried their luck at many casinos across the United States.
In 1985 Norm retired from Sohio/BP, where he began as a fuel truck driver advancing to Distribution Manager. He was a Community Leader serving as President of the Randolph/Waterloo School Board and President of the Brecksville Kiwanis Club. He was a previous member of the Randolph Lions Club and a proud member of the Randolph Alumni Association. One of Norm’s favorite activities was his daily walks as a part of the Chapel Hill Mall Walkers. For 30 years he walked with family and friends.
Norm’s greatest joy came from his family. He and Jackie raised four children; sons, Butch (Mandy) Gillis, Doug (Linda) Gillis; daughters, Dianne (John) McCormick, Deb (Ted) Passig. He is cherished by his grandchildren; Brea (Kevin) Jennings, Anderson (Nikki) Gillis, Hannah (Jon) Coleman and Sam Passig. He was a Superhero to his great grandchildren; Chloe, Austin, Chance and Knox Gillis, Rylee and Mason Jennings. Norm is also remembered by his sisters in law, Marilyn Gillis, Mary Gillis, Nancy Gillis, and many supportive relatives and his kind and compassionate Danbury Family, who made him one of their own during his time there.
The Family has decided to honor Norm with a private graveside service.
