Peggy Tatton Obituary

In honor of Peggy Tatton, born Sept. 15, 1938, who went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on July 21, 2021.

Our hearts are broken, yet no words can express the peace of her “ultimate healing”. Peggy was greeted by her Heavenly Father, her loving mother, Gladys (Ernie “Pop”) Jarrard, dear grandparents, Enoch and Alice Ball and her precious granddaughter, Christyan Michelle.

We celebrate the devoted wife of Jim Tatton, her loving husband of nearly 58 years. Throughout the years, Peggy came to rely on and cherish the faithful prayers of her husband. Together, they stood steadfast in their faith, trusting God’s mercy and grace, walking in forgiveness – knowing God’s love never fails.

A strong and loving mother to her children, Lori (John) Livigni, Mark (Shannon) Simmons, Lisa (Carl) Hughes, Jodi (Tim) Stem and Bob (Kris) Simmons. A feisty woman of resolve and a spirited woman of God – We celebrate our Mom, our best friend and confidant. The love, care and prayers of her four children and our families is a testament of who Mom was and how much she meant to each one of us.

Blessed with twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren – We celebrate our “Grandma, Grandma Peggy, Grandmimi, Granny and most recently Grandma Boo”. We will remember and cherish her spunk, style, sense of humor, laughter and the crazy fun times, as well as her heartfelt sentiments, generosity and unconditional love.

Faithful to the calling God had placed on her life, Peggy opened her heart and home to those in need of someone to stand along side them in love. For nearly 30 years “Miss Peggy” was blessed by serving as lay Pastor of the Outreach Ministry at the Church of the Holy Spirit. It was there that she became a bold witness of Christ’s love for the hurting by preparing and serving hot meals, delivering food and clothing in the neighborhood, praying with and befriending many. “Her ministry was one of leading by example, demonstrating what the heart of God is for the ‘least of these’. (Mathew 25:34-40)  She entered into the world of those she served, feeling what they felt, and understanding their brokenness close up”.

Peggy accepted the Lord, September 15, 1981. Thirty-two years later at the age of 75, Peggy got her first tattoo. The name of “Jesus” on the back of her neck. Her proclamation that “Jesus has my back” she would always say!

For our family and for many, Peggy “small but mighty” was our strength, our prayer warrior, and our walking miracle. May her ability to walk boldly in faith, courage, compassion, forgiveness, grace and unwavering love become her legacy, and ultimately bring us comfort and peace as we celebrate Peggy’s life.

Being respectful of Peggy’s wishes, cremation and a private family service have taken place. In honor of Peggy’s heart for the people of East Akron, we ask that any charitable donations be made to “The Landing” a nonprofit organization started by her granddaughter, which is to become a place of refuge, relationship and reconciliation for those who are homeless and can experience God’s love.
