Richard Leroy Bock

Richard “Dick” Bock passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 1, 2023, just prior to his 93rd birthday.

Born in Akron, Richard lived in Tallmadge and raised their family till he retired from Reliance Electric in 1992.  Dick and Pat then built a home in Pinehurst, NC where they lived and Dick golfed until 2019.

Dick is survived by his three children, Rick (Cathi) of Tallmadge, OH, Sue (Robert) Elefritz of Ormond Beach, FL, and John (Catherine) of Hardeeville, SC. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kristin (Matt) Yacobozzi, Alan (Lynsey) Bock, Frank (Shannon) Elefritz, Melissa (Rodney) Martinez, and CJ Davis; and ten great grandchildren.

Dick graduated in 1952 from the University of Akron with an Electrical Engineering Degree and worked most of his career in the rubber machinery industry in NE Ohio. He retired in 1992 from Reliance Electric Co., with Goodyear as his main customer and was able to travel the world with his wife, Patricia as new drive systems were installed in Goodyear Plants around the world.

Dick served in the U.S. Army for two years in an Engineering Battalion in El Paso, TX and Fort Knox, KY.

Dick was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Akron, OH, Tallmadge Lutheran Church in Tallmadge, OH and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pinehurst, NC. He served in many offices at all three churches, sang in the choir and was most proud of leading three building projects as they expanded their facilities.

Dick retired in 1992 and moved from Tallmadge to Pinehurst, NC, where he became a member of the Pinehurst Country Club. He enjoyed playing golf five days a week into his mid 80’s, won many men’s association events, member guest tournament flights and was invited into the men’s group ‘Tin Whistles’. He held many offices with the country club and marshaled in two U.S. Opens.

Dick returned to Tallmadge, OH after his wife, Patricia passed in 2019 and lived his final years at Danbury in Cuyahoga Falls. The family would like to thank the staff at Danbury for their compassionate care in his final months of 2023.

A celebration of Dick’s life and home going will be held at Tallmadge Lutheran Church, 759 East Ave., on Saturday, March 25th at 11:30 a.m. with calling hours at 10:30 am.
