Roger Bartlett Leuthner: May 21, 1948 (Cleveland, Ohio) - April 12, 2022 (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio)
He was the son of Elizabeth Bartlett Leuthner and Robert Leuthner of Cleveland; grandson of Marjorie and Sydney Bartlett of Cleveland, Emelia and Frank Leuthner of Sharpsville PA; husband of the late Renate Werner Leuthner.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Sherri; his sister, Joan and her family; his cousins, Barby, Lin, & Stuart; and many church friends.
Born in 1948, the year the then-Cleveland Indians won the World Series, it seemed destined Roger Leuthner would be a lifelong fan of the ballclub. His grandfather, Syd kept track of the team's score during Roger's baptism. Roger attended many games at the old Municipal Stadium in Cleveland, including Dick Bosman's no-hitter with his sister. They went to a game in the first week of the opening of then-Jacobs Field. Despite noting a few problems with drainage at the new ballpark, the two fans were thrilled with the new home for the team. Roger also became a fan of Cleveland's Akron affiliate, attending games there with family and church friends. Roger's devastating imitations of baseball managers and players entertained all who knew him.
He enjoyed the many summers spent with the Leuthner clan "at the lake" in Angola, N.Y., retirement home on Lake Erie of his Leuthner grandparents.
Throughout his life, Roger was known for his great tenor voice, leading his Charles F. Brush High School choir. He went on to sing in a number of Episcopal church choirs, especially enjoying the choir at Akron's Church of the Saviour. He was a longtime advocate for women's equality in the Episcopal church diocese.
Another lifelong avocation was aviation. At a young age, he would ride his bike to Cuyahoga County airport. And in case a traveller might need to know, Roger could reiterate from memory all 88 counties in Ohio. He visited many airports and kept close track of regional events.
He was an employee of AT & T phone company for many years at different sites in northern Ohio.
Roger will be greatly missed. His family expresses gratitude to his caregivers in recent years, who included: Richard; the Gardens' nurses; Kim; and the Miracle City Hospice group.
The memorial service for Roger Leuthner will be held Tues. April 26 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Our Saviour, 471 Crosby St. in Akron, officiated by Reverend Debra Bennett.
