Thomas E. Broderick, 85, of Tallmadge died on October 13, 2021.
He was born in Youngstown and graduated from Ursuline High School. After starting college at John Carroll, he graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in Mathematics. Tom spent his entire career at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and won the Goodyear Spirit Award in 1986. He was proud to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and was a prison minister for many years. He was also a longtime member of Our Lady of Victory Parish.
Tom was the ultimate family man and original girl dad that could fix anything and answer any questions. He was the first person we called for home repair advice. Despite needing to build himself his own shower in the basement, and threatening to move to Ireland on a regular basis, he always brushed off any comments on how challenging it was to be the dad of four girls. He patiently helped us with our homework, taught us how to drive, and most importantly, taught us how to be strong independent women who could stand on our own.
Tom had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. He was never at loss for a story or a good saying. Favorites were “Don’t become an Unsolved Mystery” and “A man never stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child”, or “It was another fine adventure with Papa.” Our personal favorite was “Knock ‘em stiff!” He was a talented woodworker filling our homes with many commissioned pieces. He was also an avid lifelong Notre Dame fan. Go Irish!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Anna Broderick; aunt, Frances Anderson; and his brother, Joseph P. Broderick.
Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy; daughters, Ann (Bob) Malthaner of Stow; Mary Beth (John) Beck of Twinsburg; Laura (Dave) McGuinness of Mars, PA and Kate (Dave) Murray of Stow. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Lauren (Elliott Schermerhorn) Malthaner of Dallas, TX; William Malthaner of Stow; Andrew McGuinness of Jersey City, NJ; Erin and Cara McGuinness of Mars, PA; Elaine, Claire and Matthew Beck of Twinsburg and Colin and Ryan Murray of Stow.
