Thomas Jenkins, 93, passed away May 5, 2022. He was a life resident of Akron.
Tom served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Goodyear and was a US and Canada negotiator for the URW. After retiring he worked for Four Seasons Service running a mowing crew for 14 years until his wife became ill. Tom took care of his wife for 11 years. Tom also worked for the All American Soap Box Derby as head of the repair crew. Tom was a member of St. Martha/Blessed Trinity Parish. He enjoyed calling bingo at the Gables of Green and would attend the parties and helped set up and cleanup at the Gables of Green. He was a Eucharistic Minister and delivered communion to nursing homes, was an usher at EJ Thomas and was a special deputy for Summit County. Tom was involved in making 332 no sew blankets donated for the Veterans. He had help from the ladies at the Gables of Green. He was the cutter and the ladies tied. Tom would feed all the animals at Tallmadge Cemetery when he would go visit Mary daily.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Thomas and Clotilda Jenkins; sister, Ruth Few; and son in law, Greg Popa.
Tom is survived by his daughters, Mary (Ed) Mowrer of St Clairsville and Sue Popa of Tallmadge; son, Tom (Cathy Devine) Jenkins of Akron; grandchildren, Tomy (Taylor) Jenkins, Matt Mowrer, Emmy (Randy) Ketcham, Megan (Levi) Hall, Missy (Scott) Newcomer, Gina Waligura, Erin Popa, Rob (Alana) Popa, Cory (Cora Plazak) Popa; great grandchildren Jacob, Gabriel, Natalie, Jared, Adam, Kara, Riot, Lindsay, Ellie and Cooper; close friends Jennifer and Loraine; and his second family at the Gables of Green.
Visitation will be 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday May 9, 2022 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Blessed Trinity (St. Martha Church) 300 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron with Father Joe Warner officiating. PROCESSION TO FORM AT THE CHURCH.
Interment will take place at Tallmadge Cemetery.
